Study and more study

Okay now, its 14^th of May and it’s already Friday, which means mid terms starts in two and a half days. How do I feel about midterms?? Not much actually, I’m not afraid nor nervous. Well, maybe a little bit. Who isn’t right?? It’s the first exam for us March intake people, and we don’t know how the exams will be. It’s not high school anymore, if you fail, you sink, then you die. In high school, you could get whatever grades you like, fail, pass or excellent and you’ll still be able to continue high school. Here in college, you’ll have to maintain a certain grade to be able to continue on with the course. If you fail to maintain that lovely grade, I guess you’ll just have to start all over again, a waste of your own time and precious money. Sure, college is much more fun compared to high school, but remember, how you perform during exams is really important. So don’t screw it up.

For the whole week, we’ve been talking about the exam formats and tips in class. Oh, and the lecturers keep emphasizing on punctuality during the exams as no extra time will be given if you come into the exam hall late, and copying or plagiarism is taken seriously and we were warned. Now, some subjects are simple and easy while some really needs you to take time to understand and get the concept in to your head. Fundamentals of Management for example, it’s all about concept and not memorizing. Well, all the subjects are about concept and not memorizing actually. College encourages you to think, understand and have your own ideas, not memorize. CSS or College Study Skills are one of the easy subjects that require no memorizing whatsoever. It’s basically English and is a real simple course.

Well, what have I done to prepare for my exams? I revised the notes, did the revision questions and had a group study with my course mates. Oh yea, Ms Sureka; my IT lecturer gave us some questions to do during tutorial today, and I was amazed how easy the questions were, even though I had not started revising IT yet. I finished it really fast too. If the exams are that easy, then I think I’ll do alright, if they’re not, then I’ll go prepare some rope to hang myself. IT is still a weeks time away and there should be hopefully enough time for me to finish revising.

Besides that, I had a group study session with See Yuen and Xian Gang at Starbucks just now. The reason why there are only three of us is because the less people there is, the less talking and distractions. We discussed on subjects like Mass Com and Fundamentals of Management as these two subjects have a lot more to cover compared to the other subjects. Mass com has about seven chapters that we’ll be tested on, so there are some things we might not understand completely. The strange thing is, I actually concentrate better in Starbucks compared to studying at home, might be the coffee I guess. Oh well, go figure.

Sports or music?? I'll do sports again

Ahhhhh, sports; the all time favorite of us Malaysians, its either we like playing sports or we like watching sports. The late nights at the mamak stall watching football matches and sipping on the tarik. That’s the life, other people might think we’re crazy to be out so late at night just to watch a football game but the experience and the friend bonding is seriously awesome!!! Now, let me tell you what I think about Malaysian sports. Okay, let’s start with badminton. We all know that our beloved country is ranked one of the best in the world of badminton, thanks to Datuk Lee Chong Wei and the other players. He really has outdone himself and put Malaysia on the world map and let people know that Malaysia is actually good in sports (certain sport’s that is).

As good as we are on badminton; every dog has its day. Malaysia lost to Japan in the first time of history of the Thomas Cup Finals. Everyone was stunned, even my mom. No one ever thought that we will lose to Japan. It was really disappointing but it was a good game, that’s for sure. Well, maybe not. You see an incident occurred after the Japan game, doubles shuttler Mohd Fairuzizuan lost his cool after losing the game to Japan. The ugly incident took place after he retaliated to the foul language and a vulgar sign showed by a fan. Seriously, you’re a fan of Malaysia and this is how you show support to your country player? Sure, we might have lost, but we can’t win every time right? Now the poor guy has to receive disciplinary actions.

Okay now, enough about badminton. Let’s talk about football, I’m sure most of us are football fans right?? Sadly, I’m not talking about English football; I’m talking about Malaysian football. Yes, when people talk about English football, they have that happy joyful look in their eyes, but when it comes to Malaysian football, no one talks much about it. I’m sure there’s a good reason why people do not support our local teams. To start with, our local team has never really won any games other than Sea games. Well, maybe not Sea games, we are practically at the bottom of the barrel. Even Myanmar can beat us at football. Compare Myanmar to our country, we are so much better off and developed compared to them, and yet they are able to beat us. It’s a real shame actually, we are from Asia but it doesn’t mean we can’t qualify for the world cup. We should follow the footsteps of countries like Japan, Korea and China. South Korea even has a player playing for Manchester United, to have an Asian playing for an English Club, is something to be proud off.

Other than that, our Malaysian hockey team is doing alright. We are just one point below third place, but India is doing really well with ten points under their belt. China and Egypt are at the bottom two, with one and null respectively. Oh well, at least we’re not at the bottom.

Exam blues

Exams exam exams, these words are constantly ringing in my head. No matter where I am, on the bed, having my meal even sitting on the toilet bowl, the words seem to keep appearing. Before that, I was too busy with my mass com assignment to care about mid terms, but now I’ll have to get stated with my revisions. It’s seriously frustrating; I’ll be getting a few more white hairs by the end of next week. Surely you’re thinking; why don’t you just sit down, grab a book and start reading. The fact is, it’s not as simple as that, sure, I can sit down, but I can’t guarantee that I’ll be studying. There are too many distractions in my room, laptop, phone, magazines etc. The moment I sit my butt down, my mind starts to wander. I just can’t concentrate; besides, I didn’t even get to rest after finishing my mass com assignment. Nevertheless, I did manage to sit down and do a bit of revision exercises. If I’m to do well in the mid terms, I really got to get serious and start doing my revisions!!! How I wish mid terms aren’t next week.

Now, I’m not afraid of exams actually, never was to be frank. Some of my course mates (I can’t say who) are already prepared and ready to kick that mass com paper’s a** on Monday. I can’t say the same for me. In secondary school, I always do last minute revisions and I never really did my given homework. Now, I do finish all my assignments now and pass them up on time, the assignments do make up a huge part of our exam marks so I dare not screw my assignments up , but I still do last minute studying, it has become a really bad habit I guess. Even my mom is more worried than I am, she goes; haiya, what are you doing?? Your mid terms are on Monday and you’re still idling away. Oh well, guess it’s just the way I am, it’s my style and nothing can make me change.

My lecturers have been all so kind to give us tips on what to study for the midterm exams and I really do thank them a lot for that. Seriously, they could just let us be and let us study on our own, but they chose to help us and lighten our burden, so a very big thanks to all my lecturers. Other than that, I’ve been doing revision questions given by each lecturer doing tutorial classes, they post it on Black Board 7 and we bring it to tutorial classes for discussions. The tutorial questions are really helpful; they test how well you know about the chapters and gauge your knowledge. You can even revise the questions and answers for the exams as some of the questions might come out in the midterms. (Hopefully most of them will). I really hope I’ll do well, who doesn’t right?? Oh well, better get started now, till next time.

Sports or music?? I pick sports

Sports, what do I think about sports?? Hmmmm, usually people will think of football, badminton, squash or golf. For me, I think of lion dance, yes, lion dance. Some people might ask why do I say lion dance, it can’t be a sport, can it? Well, lion dance is a sport and is already internationally recognized; let me tell you a little bit more about lion dance. You see, lion dancing is not as simple as you might think it is. The fact is, you have to be in tip top physical shape to be able to perform it; lion dancing involves a lot of strength, stamina and cardio strength as the lion performers are required to jump poles which are ten to fifteen feet high with a base length of twenty, thirty, forty and even fifty feet!!! Imagine carrying a two kilo lion head and jumping from start to the end and back again, It really takes super human strength or a lot of practice. Now, I am not trying to boast or anything, but in my opinion, people don’t really understand this beautiful art form and don’t really give much credit to the performers.

Let me talk about the history and origins of lion dancing. Based on folklore in ancient china, a monster called “nian” appeared and started terrorizing a farming village and its villagers. Everyone was afraid and dare not step out of their houses, seeing the problem at hand; a young villager comes up with a plan. He gets all the villagers together and starts making a lion head out of colorful paper and cloth and waits for the creature to appear. When it finally appears, the villagers use the lion head accompanied by loud drums, cymbals, firecrackers and gongs to make loud noises. Seeing the weird paper lion, and startled by the loud noise, the creature flees the village and never to return again. This is where lion dancing evolved from.

Now, let me talk about the types of lions in the lion dancing world. Basically, there are two types of lions; the northern lion and the southern lion. Now, what’s the difference between the two lions?? Let me explain, the northern lion; also known as “Beijing lion” has a thick long bushy coat. Whereas the northern lion has a shorter coat compared to its southern counterpart. Another difference between these two lions is the style of dancing and stances. The northern lion has fewer moves and stances compared to the southern lion and mainly consist of spins and twirls on top of table. Another thing about northern lion is that there is a female and also a male lion. There is also a lion tamer; a person who has a wushu background, that follows the two lions.

Southern Lions

The southern lion however, has more emotion, moves, stances and tricks. The Southern lion dance consists of traditional ground performances and also high pole performances. Besides that, this style also emphasizes on the lion’s expressions and emotions. The southern lion does not have female or male lions but is grouped in to the futshan and hoksan lion. The differences between the lions can be easily spotted. The futshan lion has a curved mouth and fierce looking whereas the hoksan lion has a flat mouth and has a more timid look. Now, other than the looks, the futshan and hoksan lion has their own style and dancing, let me elaborate more on that.

Now, let’s start with the futshan lion. The futshan style requires much more strength compared to the hoksan style. The reason for this is because the futshan has a fiercer look and therefore requires big movements to completely bring out the lion’s emotion. The hoksan style on the other hand, does not require big movements to bring out the lion’s emotions.

The sad facts of Lakeside Campus

Lakeside campus, what do I think of this big, new, shiny building? Hmmm, the first impression of non Taylorian’s are always; “whoaaaaaaaa”. But for me,I go; ‘sigh’. Why do I dread this place? People might think that I’m going crazy for not liking the new campus, but the fact is; the new campus is not a lot of fun to start with. It may look really big and be full of new facilities, but the fact is, it doesn’t have the same feel of LCS campus. Sure, LCS looks small, old and dirty, but the feel of LCS is something the new lakeside campus can never have. I’m sure many of those who just moved from LCS would agree with me. Although I was only there for a mere three weeks, but I really do miss that place. Let me tell you why.

Let me tell you a very sad story. Every morning, I leave the house at 7 am as my class starts at 8am. I don’t know live far from campus as I have the NPE and it only takes me ten minutes max to reach college. I go to LCS to pick Xian Gang up, but that’s not the problem. The problem is; the jam to lakeside!!!! I have no idea what is the problem, you just get stuck there. Even those who are walking are faster than us!!! This is how congested and sad Lakeside Campus is. Oh, to add to the list of sad things, accidents do happen on a regular basis. I’ve seen a Vios get hit by a kelisa and the Vios owner wasn’t too happy to see her right door completely smashed. You don’t see this happening in LCS do you?

Secondly, the food in lakeside campus is really expensive, and the taste is “interesting”. Sure, there are all the local delights, but it just doesn’t taste nice. Take the mixed rice for instance, normally we are the ones who scoop up whatever dish that fancies us, but here, the store attendant does it for you, by doing this, they had just violated one of the “mix rice traditions”!!! Mix rice is meant to be picked and scooped by us!!!!! Besides that, the pricing will really make you scream. A little bit of curry and a few pieces of tofu cost you five ringgit!!! It’s even more expensive than eating outside, technically speaking; it’s more economical if we eat outside rather than in campus. Besides that, there are not many choices to choose from anyways. There’s chicken rice, mixed rice and noodles. That’s it. In LCS, there’s western food, mamak delicacies, Chinese and a lot more, and the stall owners there are really friendly. I shall miss them.

Now, besides the food, the parking here is also a real pain in the behind. Firstly, the amount of cars in Taylors is really mind blowing. The world really has changed, cars have now become a necessity and not a luxury, hence the increasing number of cars on the roads. Secondly, the car parks are just not enough for everyone; as a result, people double park and sometimes even Triple Park!!! If you’re really unlucky, your car might even get scratched and that really ruins your beautiful day. These are all the hazards us Taylor students face on a daily basis and I swear I am not making stories up!!! Although it has never happened to me, but I have tons of friends who has had their cars damaged. I have thought of not driving to campus, but it is really inconvenient for me. Oh well, hopefully the parking woes will be solved soon.

Lakeside campus!!!!!

I was away and enjoying myself in dreamland happily counting sheep and drifting around among the clouds, until this annoying ringing comes and spoils everything for me. Damn it!!!! I thought to myself. I woke up and looked at my phone. 6. 30 Am. I reached for my phone to press the snooze button, so I can sleep in for a little while longer. I wasn’t in the mood to get up, it was so darn early!! I haven’t waked up this early in a long time. But I had to avoid the massive jam and not be late for my first day at the new lakeside campus. After 9 minutes, the alarm rings again, no more sleeping or I would be late, so I got up and took my shower and left home before 7am. I promised Xiang Gang I would pick him up at 7.10 at LCS. The journey to campus is ever so stressful, being caught in jams are one of the cons of driving. The road outside LCS is really disappointing, the whole stretch is always jammed up to a standstill, and I do mean a complete STANDSTILL. After getting through the tons of cars in front of me, I finally reached LCS. Poor Xian Gang was there standing with a box of books. (awwww, pity him)

Anyways, picked up Xian Gang and headed to Lakeside Campus. Guess what, lakeside is just as jammed up as LCS. Seriously, I don’t know what is it with the roads being all jammed up, but I just can’t stand it. Okay now, reached the outside of Lakeside campus around 7.20am. By 7.30am, we managed to enter the campus grounds. “Seems like those horror stories about lakeside campus are true”. When I drove in, there were still many empty parking bays. Lucky me I guess.

Lakeside is truly much larger and prettier than LCS, but still, I prefer LCS more compared to Lakeside campus. LCS has that “laid back” feel to it, while Lakeside is much stricter and has more rules. We can’t smoke on campus; have to obey a stricter dress code etc. Anyways, no point complaining over it right? After parking the car, we headed in search of our class. It took us quite a while to find it; the new campus is really big you see.

So, we found our class. But I guess the others weren’t so lucky. As we took our sits, there were only a few of us in the class. Mr Winston had no choice but to start the class and start taking our attendance. Soon, the others arrived. All of them got lost while trying to find the class. After that, it was mass com class. I think there was a mix up in the classes again, another bunch of people actually entered and claimed that they were having a class here. Ms Karmini came and sought things out with management, we were praying that classes would be canceled, but our hopes were let down. Classes commenced as usual. But it ended early, guess it wasn’t too bad after all. After class, me and Xian Gang went over to Sunway for our lunch and did our mass com assignment. Went home around 4.30pm.

What i did during the holidays pt 2

It’s already Friday afternoon and the holidays are almost coming to an end. The end of the holidays are much dreaded by all students since the invention of school holidays. No more late night hang out sessions, no more waking up at one in the afternoon and no more having fun whenever you want. Worst of all, the deadlines for our assignments are after the holidays. So you can practically figure out the amount of stress and chaos we are going through. Oh well, no pain no gain right? Might as well learn to live with it and sacrifice some of our time and focus on completing and perfecting our assignments. After all, after we graduate from university and become rich and famous, we could do pretty much what we want. That’s what my mom always tells me.

Okay, back to what I did during the holidays. In my previous post, I mentioned about going for lion dance performances. Well, other than dancing on poles for the one week break period, I did do other stuff during my one week off. I don’t like being stuck at home you see, and I surely do not like to sit at home all day and stare at my assignments. The two make a bad combo and will drive you nuts if you know what I mean. So, what I did was called Xian Gang on Wednesday, and we went to Summit together. I picked him up at LCS but he was late as usual. I had to wait for him for almost 20 minutes; I know I have an awesome friend here. So, after he finally arrived, we headed to our designated place. The road to summit was awesomely jammed up as usual, I have no idea why is it always like this. Maybe it was destined to be jammed up just to get us drivers pissed off. Who knows? The sky is blue for some reason and we can’t explain that, or can we?? Oh, I nearly hit a motorcycle on the way, but I didn’t, so everything went on just fine.

So, we reached Summit safe and sound without killing anyone or getting killed in the process. Parked my car and headed up to do some “guy” shopping, I know it sounds gay. (Sorry Mr Winston, please don’t misunderstand) Okay now, back to the story, went up and looked for the shop which sells Zippo lighters. I and Xian Gang had wanted one since forever, but as we reached, the shop was closed. Xian Gang kind of freaked out because there was a sign there and he taught it was a closing notice. It turned out to be a recruitment notice. We decided to have our breakfast first or should I say early brunch?? Anyways, we were looking for a place to have our meal, and Summit isn’t a real fancy place, so the only decent place to have our meal was Old Town White Coffee. (There was actually a lot of other shops to eat at, but we didn’t like them, so yeah) Okay, went to Old Town White Coffee, and ate nasi lemak and drank “cham”. We were actually quite lifeless, we sat there for an hour talking about crap and idling away and practically wasting time. I think the shop owner was kind of pissed off at us, but who cares. Looked at our watches and figured it was time to go get our lighters, and yes!!!! It was open, went in, looked at the lighters on display and had our pick. Then the rest was history, I’m sure you guys don’t want to hear me talking about us paying money, getting it and taking it back home, do you??

After getting what we wanted, we suddenly lost our aim and did not know where to go after that, and it was still early!! We actually came to the point where we stood still and desperately thought of a place to go. After many hours of thinking, we finally decided we would just visit See Yuen to annoy her. So we drove all the way down to Puchong to pay her a surprise visit. She was kind of shocked to see us, and didn’t open the gate either, great friend huh?? Well, she opened the gate at last and let us in, she had this really cute toy poodle; I think she named it Pipi if I am not mistaken. Anyways, went out together to Station 1 and had afternoon tea. Fetched See Yuen home around 4 ish and sent Xiang Gang to fitness first at Section 14. Reached home around 5.30, was kind of tired and went to bed early.

What i did during the holidays

Ahhhh, finally some time to rest and relax after three hectic weeks of college. A semester break just after three weeks of starting classes, how cool can that be? Well, it is not that cool actually, being let off does not mean we are free from assignments, and we have a pile of it to keep us company during the short break. This means we have to focus more on our given assignments and cut down on slacking off and hanging out with our friends. I am sure that most of us are frustrated or even pissed off, who would not be? I mean, it is the holidays, we are suppose to be having fun and doing whatever we want without having to worry about assignments. Sadly, those days are long gone now. Being in college means we have become adults and therefore hold much greater responsibilities and have to learn to sacrifice our time for greater tasks. It only comes naturally right? We used to learn ABC in kindergarten and graduated to counting and subtracting in primary to calculating formulas in High School. Now we are in college, what do you expect? It is no walk in a park that is for sure.

Okay, enough of complaining about assignments and how it ruins our splendid holidays. We are going to have to get used to it no matter how hard it is. To be frank, I have no idea what so ever on what to do during the holidays, other than doing my assignments I mean. Seriously, a week is kind of short don’t you think? Well, Sanjiv invited us to his house for a party last Saturday. Don’t know how that turned out, I couldn’t attend as I already had plans on that day. Sorry Sanjiv, no hard feelings alright?

Now, the reason I was unable to attend Sanjiv’s party was because I had multiple lion dance performances throughout the weekend. After classes on Friday, I went straight to Lion Dance HQ- Catholic High School (we’ll be moving to our new training grounds soon). Now, while the rest were having fun at Sunway Pyramid and all, I headed back there to help with the packing of our equipment. It was a high pole performance for a company selling Astro Decorders in Glenmarie. It was for their grand opening ceremony, if I am not mistaken. By 5pm, we were already there setting up our equipment and getting ready for the event to begin. As usual, we had to wait for the VIP’s to arrive. Finally at 7.15pm, we started performing. All went well that night, no mistakes although we had less than a weeks of practice time, everyone was satisfied, even the event organizers. We had a great buffet dinner before leaving.

Woke up at 9 am on Saturday, two more performance’s for today. One at a factory selling golf equipment in Sunway, and another for a DAP dinner at Confucius Secondary School, KL. Packed up my stuff and headed to headquarters to wait for everyone to arrive and head over to the performance location. Was a really huge factory, the performance lasted for an hour plus. Everyone was really tired; thank god there was food there.

Went back for a rest and to pack the high poles for the DAP dinner in KL. Everyone was already worn out but we just ignored the fatigue and carried on. Left for KL around 4.30pm. Set up the high poles and noticed there was not enough place for our usual routine. We had to come up with a whole new routine with no more than an hour till the dinner begins. After a few practice sessions, the performance begins. Thankfully we managed to pull through and the performance was a great success. Everyone in the building applauded and cheered for us, what an awesome feeling. Had dinner there as we bought tickets. Listened to the DAP members give their speeches about our present government and political issues. It was my very first time attending such a function. Great experience.

A new beginning pt 2

After thinking long and hard on what to write for my second blog post for “A new beginning”, I finally came to my senses and decided on what am I to post in my blog. It was not an easy task as so many things happened in a mere three weeks of college. It is really an overwhelming task to try and write and express everything correctly so that the people reading your blog would actually understand and not just think you’re weird.

Moving on, after skipping the second day of orientation, I am back here to attend my very first lecture class. There was suppose to be a tutorial in the morning but we are only required to attend lectures for this week. Oh well, more time for me to sleep then. I had not been waking up early ever since SPM ended, so waking up at 8am takes some getting use to.

I reached campus around 11.50am and waited for Xian Gang to arrive; both of use had no idea what so ever where our classes are . We were not paying much attention during the campus tour, as I said; our “tour guide” was really “HOT”. So we were paying more of our attention on her rather on the tour, look where this got us. Now, enough about our “HOT” tour guide. There was only ten more minutes till classes start and Xian Gang is still nowhere in sight. I called him, and asked where he is? He says he is almost reaching. It is almost 12 sharp and finally he shows up, so we both hurried to find our “unknown” class. Thankfully we managed to find it or our first lecture would had really been a real screw up. Finding the right block was not that hard, but waiting for the lifts in LCS is a real pain in the A**. It takes forever for it to come down, it was like waiting for childbirth, but only much more annoying. When the lift finally came down after taking its own sweet time, we had to go back up again. There were a lot of people you see, and there was a stop at almost every floor. This is particularly frustrating when you are already running late for class. Finally, we managed to reach our class. As we entered, everyone was already sited in their places. The lecturer was already in the class; all eyes were upon us as we entered the class. It was as if we had done something horribly wrong. We had our sit and classes commenced. Had another ice breaking session to know each other better, our lecturer’s name is miss Ngim. She talked about the importance of being punctual .We were let off early as it was our first lecture class. We exchanged phone numbers and emails with each other after that. Awesome day!!! Had no class the next day as it was all tutorials.*Two thumbs up!!! PS: Kind of summarized the last part a bit. Sorry Mr Winston.

All right, the first day of class was awesome, got to meet my new course mates and all. So, as usual, I woke up at 6.50 sharp to get ready and avoid the dreaded jam outside campus. Traffic was congested as usual, especially the stretch outside LCS. Waking up early in the morning and being stuck in a jam really ruins your pleasant morning. Oh well, guess I will just have to get used to it then. After being stuck there a whole lifetime, I finally reached campus grounds. With ten more minutes to spare, I walked in and saw Xian Gang at the 7-eleven. Went up with him to find our class as I still did not know where the classes are located. Guess what, after finding the class and sitting down, it turns out there was a mix up in the classes, and we were in the wrong class!!! Ms Sureka, our IT lecturer, asked us to go wait in the multipurpose hall while she goes sought things out with management. The multipurpose hall was not too comfy either. There was no air conditioning, what a great way to work up a sweat in the morning. Finally, she got things done and we had a class!!! Did the usual in class, introduction of ourselves, punctuality talk, etc.

Ms Sureka was pretty much a fun and easy going lecturer. Kudos to her. We were let off early once more as it was only the first week. No tutorials classes after that. Went home and packed for the trip back to my hometown for “cheng beng”

College life is just awesome!!! Until the assignments start piling in. But before that happens, I shall enjoy my college life.

A new beginning

After slacking off for more than three months, a whole new chapter in my life has begun, which is the transition from being a secondary school student to a college student. I had to admit I was a little excited that I’ll be carrying on with my studies in Taylors University College. Getting to meet new friends and all, new surroundings, new experiences, and being independent, and best of all, we do not have wear a uniform!!! How cool is that!!! Unlike secondary school, there are no teachers to tell you what’s wrong and what’s right, we have to pretty much figure out everything by ourselves and make our own decisions. We are no more little children that had to be spoon fed, we have out grown that shell and became an adult.

Now, let me talk about the first day of stepping foot on campus grounds. It was the 29^th of March, and today’s my orientation day. The orientation was due to start at 9am, I set my alarm to ring at 8am sharp, but lazy me decided to sleep in a little while longer, I ended waking up at 8.15 am. Seeing that I was going to be late on my first day, I quickly sprang out of bed and took a quick shower, got dressed and rushed downstairs and sped of to college. On the highway, I drove really fast to make up for lost time. I know it would be silly to get involved in an accident on my first day to college, but I’m 18 with raging hormones, I do things first and ask questions later. All I thought of was getting to college on time and not be late. Thank god I reached on time, it was only 8.45 and I had 15 more minutes to spare. And thankfully the highway wasn’t that congested either.

After parking my car, I walked in to the front desk and asked about which group would I be in for orientation. As I was waiting for my orientation group, guess who I met, Xian Gang and See Yuen. I was really surprised to have saw them there, I thought I would be all alone and all. At least now I have my friends to accompany me and not be so bored of orientation and all. After a few minutes, we were asked to gather at the multipurpose hall to have a briefing. It was a standard briefing, introductions, welcome speeches. It was really dull and I almost fell asleep. After that, we were taken on tour by our seniors around the campus, our “tour guide” was an Indonesian Chinese, Xiang Gang thought she was “hot” or Pretty in normal English. He could not stop talking about her. Well, neither could I. She was really nice and friendly, she even let us off early for our break. She is some awesome senior.

During our break, we met up with another friend and went to Mc D’s for our lunch. So all four of us went in my car to the outlet near campus. We went there and enjoyed the cool air and talked. We were there for quite some time as we were let off early and all. Headed back to campus 10 minutes before the break ends. We waited in front of the office and chatted a bit more. After that, we went back to the multipurpose hall and continued on with the orientation activities. We skipped a few of them as we thought we had enough of listening to people talk about the lakeside and LCS campus. We had our pictures taken for our student ID’s around 5pm. It was a really long line and we waited there for ages before it was our turn. Many people left before taking their picture as it was kind of late already. See yuen decided to take it another day, but me and Xian Gang kept our patience and got our photos taken. Too bad for See Yuen.
